Afromix Exchange between Reunion and South Africa: 2011-2012
The Afromix project main objectives are:
- an international cultural exchange between Reunion island and South African artists
- and the production of a professional level performing arts show (music, dance, circus arts)
The project encompasses 2 phases:
- Phase 1: in Reunion island in October 2011.
4 South African artists in residency with 9 Reunion artists, creating the “Afromix” show, a 1 hour performing arts show influenced by South African, West African and Reunion island cultures.
Arts represented: Dance (Afro-dance, Reunion « moringue » martial art), Music (African influenced musical creation), Circus arts (fire spinning, stilts walking, acrobatics)
The show will be performed at various festivals and venues in Reunion island by the end of october 2011: Tourné Viré Saint-Benoît, les Récréateurs, Mairie de l'Etang Salé...This phase is sponsored by Region Reunion.
- Phase 2: in South Africa in for 1 month in the second semester of 2012.
Remastering of the “Afromix” show during a second artistic residency wih the South African and Reunion artists.
Perfomance of the show at various festivals and venues.
The project managers are currently prospecting for venues, partners and sponsors in Southern Africa.2012 being the year of France in South Africa should enable the project to get a particularly positive attention in South Africa.
A video documentary and photo-documentary will be realised during the 2 phases to document the cultural exchange
